Oil resistance of O-rings of different materials

O-rings are made of many materials. If these materials are classified according to oil resistance, they can be divided into polar rubber (that is, oil-resistant rubber) and non-polar rubber (that is, non-oil-resistant rubber). How about the oil resistance of the material? Let's learn about it.

1. Fuel resistance: Among many raw materials, FKM fluororubber and FMVQ fluorosilicone rubber have excellent resistance to fuel oil, but the fuel resistance of neoprene and chlorinated polyethylene is relatively poor. As for NBR nitrile rubber In terms of fuel resistance, it will increase due to the increase in the content of acrylonitrile added to the material.

2. Mixed fuel resistance: Among them, O-rings produced by fluorosilicone rubber and fluororubber have better resistance to mixed fuel oil. As for acrylic rubber, its oil resistance is relatively poor. The higher the fluorine content in fluororubber, then The more stable it is against oil.

3. Mineral oil resistance: NBR nitrile rubber is a more commonly used material for O-rings. It has better resistance to mineral oil. If the content of acrylonitrile is high, the oil resistance is better. However, if the amount of acrylonitrile added is higher, Then its heat resistance will be affected.

4. Acid oxidation fuel resistance: Because acid oxidation fuel contains hydroperoxide, and hydroperoxide can deteriorate the performance of vulcanized rubber, nitrile rubber is often used in many fuel systems. However, ordinary nitrile rubber compounds cannot work for a long time in sour gasoline above 125 degrees, so other chemical components need to be added to the raw materials.

As the production materials of O-rings increase, it is more difficult for customers to choose. Since different materials have different resistance to different oils, customers should pay attention to the oil resistance requirements of the occasion when selecting.
